Intercultural Competence: mobilising training, writing and speaking talent

The Brussels-based international communications company Europublic, in association with CulturalConnective of London, have formed a strategic alliance and  introduced a series of ‘Bureaus’ providing training, writing and public speaking resources.

The companies have identified key practitioners in the fields of professional training, writing and public speaking, and are promoting their services over the Internet.

There is a strong theme of Interculturalism as well multilingualism and the Internet running through the profiles of these people. With the latest telecom systems, established working methods and language skills, both companies operate across time zones, languages and cultures. They promote the development of skills in international management, teamwork and international negotiation through training, lectures, public speaking and book publishing in up to twenty languages.

Europublic works for organisations in a wide range of fields. These include various DGs of the European Commission, the European Administrative School, UK Trade and Investment, the Walloon Export and Foreign Investment Agency, the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium, the Boston Consulting Group, The Future Alliance, and Net Expat.

CulturalConnective’s clients include:

Software AG, Daimler Chrysler, Henkel, Motorola, Procter & Gamble, Vodafone, General Electric and UBS AG.

Bridging cultures with the computer

Teams are at the interface between cultures and an increasingly virtual world dominated by things like email, teleconferencing, BlackBerry, Internet fora and Skype. The benefits of the latter are obviously time- and cost-savings and, up to a point, greater efficiency. It can even be argued that virtual communication largely “filters out” the kind of intercultural hang-ups that complicate normal life. But there is a downside as well and it is important that people know about it – which, in many cases, they don’t!

This was the subject of Richard Hill's presentation: 'Another World - Cultures and Virtual Communication'.

Then followed a fascinating analysis by Pierre-yves Debliquy on 'Web 2.0 - Risk and Opportunity - Opinion from the Grassroots'.

'Thanks for the interesting evening yesterday. What a panel of multi-culti experts in such a variety of fields !A Happy Guest!
