EUROPUBLIC Newsletter. May 2010
Dear Reader,
Well, here we are in May 2010 with some new items which we would like to share with you. Everybody has been talking about Greece, but the Greeks are not going to let us have the last word, as you will see below.
We recently ran a blog about Macedonia on another website and it broke all records in terms of the number of posts it generated. The FYROMers were almost as eloquent as the Greeks!
You can now follow us on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/europublic
We hope you like what you read. Your feedback is always most welcome!
Best, Karin & Richard
We read in the news…
Eyjafjallajokull and all that…
European reactions to the mayhem caused by the volcanic ash cloud were mixed. Some national carriers took the menace in their stride (?), but The Economist reported a sour statement from British Airways: "We deeply regret the great inconvenience caused to our customers as a result of NATS' decision to close UK airspace over the last six days." So there!

"Fabulous Fabrice"
In an Op-Ed piece on the Congressional hearings in Washington, the International Herald Tribune quoted from a memo written in 2007 by Goldman Sachs' key witness, Frenchman Fabrice Tourre:

"A Greek family tragedy"
Some time back The Economist said that social Europe was made up of three separate zones: aquavit-addicted: job promotion/generous dole (Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands); champagne-style: generous benefits/pensions (France, Germany, Belgium and Austria; and grappa/ouzo-guzzling: job protection/modest dole/family net (Italy, Greece, and Spain - they should have added orujo for Spain).

Only the French…
Belgium as presented on TF1! Upside down: see for yourself!
